What will I need to do during my programme?

What are the different types of curative treatments?
…is where medicated oils, milk or buttermilk are poured in a continuous stream on the forehead for a period of 45mins to one hour. Shirodhara alleviates fatigue, improves memory, vitality and sleeping patterns and is useful in the treatment of stress, depression, insomnia, migraine, ear-nose diseases, neuropathy, spondylitis, paraplegia and other neurological disorders.
…is where medicated oil is applied to the head and body and then poured into a cylindrical cap fitted on the head of the patient. The oil is left inside the cap for about 45 minutes, and then drained out. The head, neck and shoulders are then gently rubbed with the oil. The treatment is useful in eye, nose and ear diseases, chronic headaches, facial paralysis, spondylitis and insomnia. It also improves vision, memory and mental faculties, dermatological conditions and headaches.
…is where medicated oil is applied to the head and body. Herbal pastes and medicinal herbs are then applied to the head and covered with green plantain leaf. The paste is removed and the oil is wiped off. Sirolepa improves vision, cures headaches and insomnia and is used in the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression and other psychological conditions.
…is where the face, shoulders and chest are massaged with herbal oil after which herbal extracts/oil is instilled into the nostrils. The area around the nose, chest, palms and foot are then massaged vigorously. Nasya is used in treating sinusitis, allergies, headaches, migraine, rhinitis and other nasal infections.
…is where warm medicated oil is poured continuously on the body by dipping pieces of clean cloth in herbal oil and squeezing them over the skin. The oil is then gently rubbed into the body and removed by wiping with a dry towel or by a warm water bath. It is used in the treatment of musculo-skeletal diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lumbago, sciatica, hemiplegia, neuropathy and other neurological disorders.
…is where warm medicinal puddings made of rice are applied to the whole body or specific parts of the body, to induce sweating. The treatment is used in musculo-skeletal diseases, paralysis, sciatica, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
…is where herbal powders in combination with oil or ghee are applied to the body. Udvartana is used to reduce excesses fat, smooth and cleanse the skin, and impart firmness to the limbs.
Patra pinda sveda (elakizhi)…
…is where warm bundles of medicinal leaves, which have been prepared in neem oil/castor oil, are used to massage the body. This treatment is effective in aches and pains, swelling, sports injuries.
Choorna pinda sveda (podikizhi)…
…is where the whole body or specific parts of the body are made to sweat by the application of medicinal poultices warmed in herbal oil. This treatment is effective in reducing the heaviness of body/extremities and obesity.

Pancakarma is useful for the treatment of chronic disease, weight loss, enhancing vitality, anti-ageing and reducing stress. Before undergoing these procedures, the body must undergo preparation and after the procedure is completed there is a post treatment regimen that needs to be followed to enable the body to adjust to its new state whilst also being the optimum time to take Ayurvedic elixirs that rejuvenate the body and stop aging.
